We had the opportunity to collaborate with Matt last night. He's a high school senior that is college-bound to pursue academics and to exploit his goal keeping skills.

And, here are some nice words of feedback from his Mom:

Choosing Gregg Riess Photography LLC as the photographer for my son’s senior pictures was a great decision! We were overwhelmed with how he captured the essence of our son in photos. Every parent wants their son’s spirit to be captured so when they look at the photo they can say, “That’s him!” Gregg did just that. He was able to bring out Matt’s joy, his intensity, and his flair for style.

Gregg began by researching Matt’s interests and then did a fantastic job of engaging Matt so that he could better understand him. By the time we were scheduled to take pictures Matt was very relaxed and comfortable. Gregg used a variety of locations and styles that reflected and accentuated Matt’s personality. He took plenty of time with us and we never felt rushed.

When we got back the proofs we were thrilled. We had so many great options that we had a hard time selecting our final portraits! I would highly recommend using Gregg Riess Photography for your senior portraits.

Extreme Weather.

Oh, the perils of shooting the outdoor segments of senior portraits! Holly's appointment was yesterday, but we postponed because of 30 MPH winds. The weather has to be better tonight, right? Not exactly! Holly was an amazing trooper tonight as we braved a 38-degree wind chill, cold winds, gloomy skies, and a bit of rain! Tough luck with the weather--so, we'll re-schedule for a third time! Here's my favorite pic from the failed attempt. If Holly is this photogenic battling Mother Nature--we can't wait to see her when the weather cooperates! Thank you for your patience and great attitude Holly! We look forward to working with you!

Here are some heartfelt comments from one of our favorite senior clients, Lauren. Wow...we love getting feedback from our seniors, because their expectations are quite high. And, you're only a senior once!

"I did my senior pictures with Gregg Riess Photography and I promise everyone that there was no way possible that I could have been more pleased. From the second we met I felt very comfortable...like I had known Gregg for awhile.

All I had to do was give him an idea of what I wanted and he would make it happen. For example, I wanted my blue eyes to stand out, I told him that and he did it. I was VERRYYY happy with the way Gregg worked.

I saw the proofs of my pictures within two days of them being taken which I couldn't believe. He takes many different pictures of the same pose so you have many to pick from. I also loved how many times I got to change outfits so I had many pictures to choose from. He also gives you different packages to choose from so it suits what you want and the price you are willing to pay. He doesn't charge big bucks: You will pay a reasonable price for your pictures. I can't stress enough how happy I was with the outcome. I know that senior pictures are a big deal (they were to me!) and it's scary picking a studio because of that. But with Gregg Riess you WILL be happy.

I had many people ask me where I got them done because they were so good. I also felt like when we were going through the process, whether it was the day we were taking the pictures or in between that I could contact him and talk to him about that pictures. I felt like he cared how my pictures turned out. I would recommend Gregg to anyone who ever asked where they should go. Not only does he take AMAZING pictures but you are comfortable the whole time, he makes it SOOOOO much fun, and he gets you involved in the pictures. To me the pictures were not just poses but he brought out the real me in my pictures. Again I couldn't ask for anything more than what Gregg did for me. Go get your pictures with him and you will leave with outstanding pictures!"

We're always pleased when our clients take a moment and send us a thank you note. Here's one that we received from Casie's Mom. So sweet!

Thank you so much for the experience you provided Casie during her senior portraits. As a sophomore, we started looking for the perfect photographer to shoot her senior pictures. Over the next two years, she looked at many different photography websites, but she always came back to Gregg Riess Photography.

As her mom, I wanted her senior year to be everything she dreamed of, including her senior portraits. We decided on doing a studio session in the late fall and then an outdoor session in the spring. She went in with high expectations and I must say, your portraits met them all. She had a few ideas of her own, and you listened to her. You also guided her from an artist’s view. We all collaborated together to produce portraits we will cherish for a lifetime!

She had her heart set on shooting her outdoor session at a historic family property which was a bit of distance from you, but you did not hesitate to accommodate us.

When you look forward to something for so long, as Casie did, it could have easily fallen short of what she was expecting, but this experience did not. It went beyond what either of us thought it would be, and I cannot thank you enough for making her senior year memorable.

2007/2008 Simone Award winner, and simply one of our favorite clients. It's Nathan from Rockhurst HS. Here's one of the shots that we pulled from Nathan's senior portrait session. Definitely a fun shot because it's not natural for Nathan to give me a BA look. What's BA...it's bad attitude, right? We've been through this before...he simply is too nice of a guy to look too BA for me! LOL. We'll produce an image like this to emulate some of the high-end looks that you're seeing in the Gatorade ads and ESPN The Mag. You can see that we pushed the dramatic lighting, and then did lots of post-processing to make this image pop with contrast, sharpness, burning and dodging in the Riess Photography Digital Darkroom. "You can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl." Frankly, we didn't even try! When we first started working with Marissa we knew that her style, looks & fashion sense were destined for great things in the urban core & beyond. In fact, when we were scouting locations with her in mind, we knew that we'd want something very powerful in additional to an "urban glam" look. We wanted bold shapes and designs (both 3D and 2D), and a lot of powerful elements. We knew she could overpower even the most powerful scenes and not get lost. Well, we were not dissappointed! Senior Sports Portraits: Between The Lines

It's baseball season! We're fortunate to come alongside a lot of great athletes at the high school level during our senior portrait sessions. For the lucky few, we offer the Ultimate Senior Sports Portrait. After we complete the portrait segments both in our studio and at a nice outdoor location, it's time to make a trip between the lines.

We're inspired by ESPN The Mag as well as the new crop of Reebok & Chunky ads: there's high contrast, extra sharpness, and a little bit of grit. A lot of that is Photoshop magic (and let's face it....it really is magic when you get Photoshop singing)...but without raw athletic talent--you have nothing captured on film. So, grab your gear and let's get on the field.

Here's one of the area's top infielders showing his stuff. The ball was buzzing pass my ear like a bumble bee in heat. Luckily, no photographers or equipment were harmed during this shoot. Dad's arm might have been sore the next day, and Mom probably didn't enjoy chasing balls---but it was great fun.

One of our favorite clients, Drew is a key member of the Rockhurst football squad that went undefeated & won the state championship. I've known Drew for over 4 years...I count him as a special friend. We wanted to capture his athleticism & his intensity, but also wanted to catch his lighter moments as well his charm. Here are of the few images from the studio segment.

I can't wait for the outdoor segment: perhaps I should put on spikes & some shoulder pads so I can go 1-on-1 against Drew. Do you think that would be a good idea? I bet the medical staff would have to use a rake to pull me out of the ground after first impact!
